String Area

The string area at ÈâÈ⴫ý State is a carefully curated program designed to maximize every student’s potential. Our faculty are leading practitioners with a deep commitment to teaching and mentoring students. As a string student, you will experience a highly personalized education and a wide range of opportunities on stage and in the classroom that will give you the knowledge, experiences and skills for a lifetime of rewarding music-making. Our classes range from music entrepreneurship and music technology courses to Survey of African American Music, The Blues, and Music and the Holocaust. 

String students participate in a rich array of performance and learning opportunities, including weekly lessons, as well as studio classes, studio recitals, string symposia, chamber music, orchestra, and masterclasses with guest artists. 

The string faculty at the Bailey School of Music are soloists, adjudicators, and members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. They regularly perform in some of the finest concert series and venues regionally and nationally.

Instruments

    • The violin studio at the KSU BSOM offers students a dynamic and vibrant collaborative studio experience that guides students to an individualized focus to help them achieve their musical career goals. In addition to weekly lessons and studio classes, students perform in KSU’s BSOM symphony orchestra and mixed chamber ensembles.

     

    • The BSOM KSU viola studio prepares students to become musicians of the highest caliber. The studio provides the opportunity to explore a wide variety of solo literature. The studio also emphasizes ensemble and chamber music repertoire.

    • The cello studio at KSU’s Bailey School of Music is a dynamic and interactive group of cellists. In addition to weekly addition to weekly private lessons, studio classes and several Masterclasses each year, students also have the option to join the KSU Cello Ensemble. We offer students the opportunity and motivation to grow technically, musically and in live performance skills in a supportive and personal environment.

     

Ensemble Information
    • The KSU BSOM double bass faculty brings together the talent, experience and insight of experienced pedagogy of Dr. James Barket. Our classical bass faculty result is a learning environment that will provide the depth of knowledge that you will need to succeed.

     

    • The classical guitar studio area at the BSOM at KSU is led by Sean Thrower, an outstanding performer and leading educator. The studio will work to develop the artistry, refined technique and an understanding of style and performance practice necessary to succeed as a professional musician.

     

    • Elisabeth Remy, one of the leading orchestral and solo harpists of her generation leads the Harp studio. Ms. Remy is the Principal Harpist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The KSU BSOM’s Harp studio's goal is to bring each career-minded harp player to a nationally competitive level in all areas of musicianship and artistry.
