About the AMES Administration and Research Core

The purpose of the AMES Administration and Research Core is to provide infrastructure and oversight of all activities within the AMES Research Center. They promote the coordination of all research services and the activities of other core units within AMES, including the Research Clinical Core, the Data Core, and the Outreach Core. The AMES Administration and Research Core performs functions including:

  • Fiscal administration of the Center and management of grants.
  • Oversight of research activities and services.
  • Leadership and mentorship of AMES faculty, affiliate faculty, staff, students, and collaborators.
  • Engagement at multiple echelons at the community, state, and federal level to advocate for evidence-based resources and services for active-duty military, veterans, and first responders.

    Brian A. Moore, Ph.D. is a health psychologist and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at ÈâÈ⴫ý. Before joining ÈâÈ⴫ý State, he served over 10 years in the United States Army as an Infantry officer and continues to serve as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve. Dr. Moore has a Ph.D. in military health psychology and has completed pre- and post-doctoral fellowships in health and trauma psychology.

  • Israel Sanchez-Cardona

    Israel Sanchez-Cardona is an Assistant Professor at ÈâÈ⴫ý and has a Ph.D. in work and organizational psychology with training in occupational health psychology. As part of several funded projects, he has led initiatives to design organizational assessments and intervention programs to promote workers’ and organizational well-being and performance. His research focuses on how job resources (e.g., leadership) and personal resources (e.g., psychological capital) are linked to employees' work engagement, stress and burnout, resilience, and performance.

    Elsa Sanchez is the Business Operations Specialist at the AMES Center. Elsa has over 20 years in Office Management. Her leadership includes implementing plans, policies and procedures making sure that all operations run smoothly and align to quality standards and goals.

  • Will Ownbey

    Administrative Assistant

    Will Ownbey is an administrative assistant at the AMES Research Center at ÈâÈ⴫ý who assists in applied research projects. Will is currently working towards his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. Before joining KSU, he served in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry Marine on active duty from 2015 to 2019 and transitioned into the Marine Corps reserves until 2022.

    Sophie Vincent is a Research Assistant at the AMES Research Center at ÈâÈ⴫ý, where she plays a role in supporting applied research projects with a focus on innovative solutions in her field. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology, which provides her with a strong foundation in scientific principles and methodologies. Currently, Sophie is pursuing a degree in medicine, driven by her passion for integrating research with clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. 

Recent, Ongoing, or Upcoming Work by the Administration and Research Core 

In addition to providing general administration, logistical support, and Center oversight, the AMES Administration and Research Core is responsible for the completion of Organizational Health Assessments. As part of the Organizational Health Assessments, military, veteran, and first responder organizations have their members take a short, anonymous survey that measures behavioral and organizational health. The organizations receive a custom report and recommendations to improve health and well-being.

Recent AMES Research

The Center for the Advancement of Military and Emergency Services Research (AMES Research) is at the forefront of innovative studies aimed at enhancing military and emergency service outcomes.
