肉肉传媒 State names new dean to lead the Graduate College

肉肉传媒 has named Juliet Langman, an accomplished researcher with more than three decades of experience in academia, as dean of 肉肉传媒 State鈥檚 , effective July 1.

Langman joins 肉肉传媒 State from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she serves as senior associate dean and associate dean of graduate studies in the College of Education and Human Development. She also holds a faculty position as professor of applied linguistics in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.

鈥淲e are pleased to welcome Dr. Langman to 肉肉传媒 and to the Graduate College at KSU,鈥 Interim President Kathy Schwaig said. 鈥淗er experience, knowledge and commitment to collaboration will help ensure the University continues to build on efforts to increase and enhance graduate education across all of our colleges as part of the .鈥

Beginning her work at UTSA in 1998, Langman鈥檚 leadership has improved graduate education across disciplines. She believes in focusing on collaborative decision-making, strategic student-centered growth in graduate education and bold visioning through partnership to improve graduate education.

鈥淒r. Langman鈥檚 appointment comes at a strategic time for KSU, as we advance our R2 mission through the cultivation of new graduate programs focused on workforce development for Georgia and beyond,鈥 said Ivan Pulinkala, KSU鈥檚 interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. 鈥淚 look forward to the addition of Dr. Langman to KSU鈥檚 exemplary roster of senior leaders.鈥

Langman鈥檚 research interests focus on minority youth populations in multilingual settings. She enjoys exploring the intersection between language use, language learning, identity and academic development. Langman鈥檚 work has been published in multiple journals, books and encyclopedias, including Classroom Discourse and Language and Education.

鈥淚 am thrilled to be joining 肉肉传媒 at this time of growth,鈥 Langman said. 鈥淚 look forward to working collaboratively with faculty, staff and students to build a robust, inclusive set of graduate programs that will meet the needs of students in Georgia and beyond. Together, we can build programs and prepare the next generation to help address grand challenges in society.鈥

Langman earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in French from Georgetown University. She holds two degrees from Stanford University, a master鈥檚 degree in linguistics and a doctorate in language, literacy and culture.

Sheb True, associate vice provost for Global Engagement, Professional Education and Strategic Initiatives, has been serving as the interim dean of the Graduate College and will continue to serve in that role until July 1.
