New 肉肉传媒 State events series promotes virtue of civility

Generative artificial intelligence is a topic that has launched sometimes heated debates around the world. Last week, however, generative AI was a topic of a discussion held with respect and collegiality at 肉肉传媒. The structure of KSU鈥檚 event was intentional. Dubbed Marketplace of Ideas, the back-and-forth discussion on development and regulation of AI between Bill Franks, director of KSU鈥檚 Center for Data Science and Analytics, and cybersecurity attorney Camille Stewart Gloster kicked off the Civility Series. A program of the Division of Organizational Effectiveness, Leadership and Institutional Development (OLI), the Civility Series is a slate of events meant to promote and model the virtue of civility within the university community.

肉肉传媒 State alumna leverages international affairs degree to lead Global Village Project

Elizabeth Elango has long been enthralled with the idea of becoming a diplomat, sparked by an urge to see the world beyond her native Cameroon and by a shared interest in global affairs with her father, former 肉肉传媒 history professor Lovett Elango. In 1997, Elango graduated from KSU with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and afterward, a master鈥檚 degree in African studies at Yale University, where she earned a Fulbright scholarship to Zanzibar, Tanzania. Today, she leads a school for refugee girls in Decatur, the only one in the country.

Just a sophomore at 肉肉传媒, Aliyah Johnson is well on her way to becoming a leader in the community. She holds numerous student leadership roles while balancing the rigorous courseload in the Wellstar-Tom and Betty Phillips Elite Honors Nursing Scholars program. Her name can be found in the rosters of various registered student organizations, and her commitment to her studies has landed her five competitive scholarships.

Phone app boosts 肉肉传媒 State's Takeout Club waste reduction initiative

A program where takeout food containers at 肉肉传媒 dining halls are returned, washed, and reused has seen its effectiveness skyrocket through use of a phone app. KSU鈥檚 Takeout Club program has been in existence for years, but when dining services managers pivoted to an app called Fill it Forward, the return rate for meal containers increased significantly. The system lets dining managers keep accurate track of the inventory of containers in circulation, as well as letting them and Takeout Club members know how much waste is being diverted from garbage dumps 鈥� more than a half ton so far.

A research center launched by 肉肉传媒 in January seeks to boost the university鈥檚 profile in technological advancement and specialize in extended reality and artificial intelligence research. The Center for Cyber Physical Realms (CYPHR) aims to position itself as a national leader through the creation of immersive training modules and adaptive virtual environments that hold transformative potential in healthcare, education, and national defense.

肉肉传媒 State graduate program shines at national orthotics and prosthetics conference

A current student and two graduates of 肉肉传媒鈥檚 Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics program earned honors recently at the Hanger Live Conference in Nashville, a celebrated event in the prosthetics and orthotics industry. Second-year MSPO student Jen Self earned the Student Research Award, and recent graduates Joyc鈥檒ynne Williams and Brianna 鈥淭aylor鈥� Beard were named Residents of the Year. The three were among a nationwide pool of applicants.

Student ignites passion for singing in 肉肉传媒 State's Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music

Passion drove Marissa Alban to 肉肉传媒 and from one potential career path to another. She came to KSU to study nursing, a field driven by the passion of its practitioners. Unable to shake her love and talent for singing, however, she channeled her passion into a music major with a focus on vocal performance, where she remains on a path toward a career as a professional singer.

It鈥檚 not every day that students get the opportunity to take a class with the two highest ranking administrators on campus. However, 肉肉传媒 President Kathy S. Schwaig and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Ivan Pulinkala are redefining what it means to be a university leader. This semester, they led HON2400, an Honors Discovery course called 鈥淐ultivating Leadership Skills,鈥� offering their expertise and wisdom to about two dozen students. Schwaig shared her personal leadership journey, and Pulinkala focused on the theoretical principles of leadership.

KSU students to share research at Georgia Capitol

Each year, 肉肉传媒 undergraduate researchers participate in Posters at the Capitol in Atlanta, hosted by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective. The event provides undergraduate students a unique opportunity to present their innovative and impactful research projects to state officials, policymakers, and Georgia鈥檚 constituents.
