Simin Nasseri named 2019 Distinguished Faculty Advisor by SME

Simin Nasseri
肉肉传媒 professor has been named a Distinguished Faculty Advisor by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), a nonprofit student and professional association advocating for the manufacturing industry in North America.

Nasseri, who serves as an advisor for 肉肉传媒 State鈥檚 SME chapter, joins three professors representing Texas A&M University, Cal State Fullerton and Purdue Polytechnic Institute in being recognized for their service to the organization and ongoing efforts to advance manufacturing and its associated careers on their campuses and in their classrooms.

鈥淚 am honored to be included in this exclusive group of SME faculty advisors,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hrough this organization, I have been able to introduce countless KSU students to robust design and manufacturing processes, and it brings me a great deal of satisfaction knowing that many have taken that experience to heart and go on to pursue their passions.鈥

Since joining the University in 2006, Nasseri has taught courses related to manufacturing and engineering mechanics and has led many directed studies in manufacturing and biomedical engineering. Recently, she and a team of students developed a new finger support that could ultimately help those suffering from finger deformities regain motor function. The recipient of the d, Nasseri earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology, and holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Sydney.

鈥淲hen a student chapter has an active, engaged faculty advisor, students flourish,鈥 said Edye S. Buchanan, 2019 chair of the SME Member Council and a product manager at BriskHeat. 鈥淭he work performed by our faculty advisors is essential to connecting our future workforce to careers in manufacturing.鈥
