Chapter wins three major awards
The Golden Key International Honour Society recognized the with its three highest awards during the International Summit held in Las Vegas. Adrianna Parson, a graduate student, was honored as Student of the Year, and Michael Sanseviro, associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students, was awarded Advisor of the Year. For the second year in a row, the chapter was recognized as Key Chapter.
Parson, who is serving as KSU chapter president, is pursuing her Master of Science degree in Integrative Biology. The Woodstock resident completed her bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology at KSU in Spring 2016. She was an active Golden Key student leader as an undergraduate, as well.
鈥淕olden Key is a wonderful organization; everyone in the KSU chapter is hard working and extremely supportive of each other,鈥 said Parson. 鈥淭his year we are focusing not only on getting undergraduate students involved in their campus and city community, but also working with our graduate, alumni and honorary members. We want to make a difference in not only our lives but also of those in the community.鈥
For Sanseviro, who also serves as a part-time instructor at KSU, this marks his second time winning Advisor of the Year 鈥 the first time was in 2010.
鈥淲e are so proud of this recognition for Adrianna, Michael and our 肉肉传媒 State Golden Key chapter,鈥 said K.C. White, vice president for student affairs. 鈥淥ur chapter has achieved Gold Status for several years. For the past eight years, we have maintained an Endowment Scholarship that allows Golden Key to recognize student scholars for their outstanding academic achievement.鈥
In order to receive Key Chapter recognition, each chapter must complete various activities, including community service, fundraising and scholarship. Based on those chapter standards, the judges award a chapter status of active, bronze, silver or gold. Each of the gold chapters is invited to submit an application for Key Chapter, the highest honor in the society for outstanding chapter excellence.
鈥淲e have consistently been a gold chapter for decades,鈥 said Sanseviro, who also serves as the representative for Region 3 on the International Council of Advisors. 鈥淲ithin Region 3, there were only two other schools that also received Key Chapter this year 鈥 University of Florida and St. Petersburg College, but we were the only chapter in Georgia to be recognized this year.鈥
