Internationally renowned researcher named ÈâÈ⴫ý State vice president for research
December 11, 2018
ÈâÈ⴫ý has named Phaedra Corso as vice president for research, effective Feb. 4. Corso currently serves as the director of the Economic Evaluation Research Group in the College of Public Health and the associate director of the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Georgia.

The ÈâÈ⴫ý Office of Research is hosting the inaugural John C. Salerno Memorial Research Symposium on Friday, Sept. 28. Showcasing a cross-section of KSU faculty research, the event is a tribute to the prolific research contributions of Salerno, who was the Neel Distinguished Chair in Biotechnology at KSU prior to his death in 2015.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute awards $1 million grant to ÈâÈ⴫ý State

Led by the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), ÈâÈ⴫ý was awarded a $1 million grant by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) diversity and inclusion, with a focus on increasing science degree success for African-American and Hispanic students.

More than 3,100 students will graduate during ÈâÈ⴫ý State’s spring Commencement. The University’s six graduation ceremonies will be held in the KSU Convocation Center on the ÈâÈ⴫ý Campus, beginning Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

ÈâÈ⴫ý State undergrads showcasing research at national conference

ÈâÈ⴫ý is being represented by nearly 100 students this week at the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Edmond, Oklahoma. More than 4,000 students from 400 colleges and universities are presenting their research April 4-7 at the prestigious annual conference. With 93 students attending, ÈâÈ⴫ý State's number of participants is second only to the host institution, the University of Central Oklahoma.

ÈâÈ⴫ý State biology professor wins national award

ÈâÈ⴫ý biology professor William Ensign has been honored with the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) Biology Division Mature Career Mentor Award. The distinction is reserved for scientists with greater than 19 years of experience mentoring undergraduate researchers.

Coca-Cola donates $1.25 million to support ÈâÈ⴫ý State scholarship program

ÈâÈ⴫ý has received a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation for the creation of a scholarship program supporting first-generation students. The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholars program will provide scholarships and wraparound services to 35 students who identify as first generation – those who are first in their immediate families to seek college degrees.
