When it comes to describing 肉肉传媒 student George Williams, engineering professors Simin Nasseri and Mohammad Jonaidi find themselves rattling off a lengthy list of accomplishments. While serving as president of the KSU Motorsports student organization, Williams has carved out a niche for research in two departments within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, co-authoring numerous journal papers and conference presentations. He also held two internships, one at industrial controls company Rovisys and another at Compass Technology Group, which specializes in electromagnetic high-frequency measurement. In his free time, he uses his technical writing skills to flex his creative muscle, writing science fiction novels.

肉肉传媒 student Ryan Foster has long been fascinated with airplanes and rockets. His passion for aerospace engineering is what guided him to an internship at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) last fall, and is ultimately what led this undergraduate student to being accepted into a highly competitive Ph.D. program. However, his recent successes are just the latest in a long list of academic achievements at 肉肉传媒 State. A standout in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Foster is graduating this month with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering.

Two years ago, 肉肉传媒 student Kristen Padgett couldn鈥檛 fully envision herself as an engineer. Then a sophomore in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET), she was admittedly a bit insecure about the prospects of joining an industry where change was the only constant. That is, until she landed her first internship. 鈥淭o me, internships represent a major pivot point in my college career because it provided a great deal of perspective and allowed me to carve out my niche in engineering,鈥� said Padgett, who graduates this month with a 4.0 GPA and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in industrial and systems engineering

In life, Ellen Long constantly supported others, whether it was by introducing more women to the field of engineering, providing much-needed support to students experiencing homelessness or mentoring women early in their careers. Today, her legacy continues through the Ellen Long Honors CARE Engineering Scholarship Endowment, established by Shepherd 鈥淪hep鈥� Long to honor his late wife. The scholarship benefits students in 肉肉传媒鈥檚 Keeping Sights Upward (KSU) Journey Honors College who demonstrate acute financial need.

肉肉传媒 State students find continued success in Coca-Cola Scholarship program

Prior to enrolling at 肉肉传媒, first-generation student Kamille Suarez-Paulino said there were few people who could offer guidance for her college career. Now a third-year student in The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholars program, the economics major wears her first-generation status as a badge of pride. Suarez-Paulino is one of 35 students who have benefited from the program made possible by a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation.

Home to the second-largest engineering college in Georgia, 肉肉传媒 State is ushering in a new chapter this week as we celebrate bringing two more high-demand engineering degree programs into the fold. Today, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved two new programs for the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology 鈥� a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering and a Master of Science in Intelligent Robotic Systems 鈥� both of which will be offered starting in Fall 2021.

肉肉传媒鈥檚 Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. 鈥淩esearch with Relevance鈥� spotlights 肉肉传媒 State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. This week鈥檚 episode features Sylvia Bhattacharya, assistant professor of electrical engineering technology in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. She will discuss her U.S. Army-funded research in which she studies the behaviors of drivers and passengers in autonomous vehicles.

WE-GROW Engineering Program Aims to Improve Retention, Academic Success

When it came to picking a college major, Ramisa Ahmed had no doubt her future would be in engineering. Today, Ahmed is one of nine students this year who are receiving up to $8,800 in scholarship money annually as part of WE-GROW. The effort, launched by SPCEET in October 2019 after receiving a $997,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, aims to support first- and third-year engineering students by providing academic and co-curricular activities focused improving retention and encouraging the pursuit of rewarding and successful engineering careers.
