    Emerson Smith knew he wanted to build his own company, he just didn鈥檛 always know what problem he could end up solving. After graduating from 肉肉传媒鈥檚 Coles College of Business in 2018, Smith tested a few business ideas before heading to Silicon Valley in California, working in software sales and development. It was there, while absorbing the in-demand technical knowledge that a lightbulb went off in his head, and HappyDoc 鈥 an AI assistant helping veterinarians drastically reduce the time it takes to complete their legally required record-keeping 鈥 was born.

    Iletha Dodds has always wanted to establish her own nail salon, but making the leap of faith felt too risky and daunting. The Marietta resident said taking care of her son and working full time as a court clerk made her dream seem improbable, so for years, she has settled on decorating the nails of family and friends as her creative outlet. That is, until she received an email detailing the Aspiring Community Entrepreneurs (ACE) program at 肉肉传媒. The ACE program launched in September 2023 through a partnership between 肉肉传媒 State and Marietta-based MUST Ministries, a nonprofit fighting poverty, hunger and homelessness in the metro Atlanta area.

    At her core, Tracey Graves says there is always one thing guiding her endeavors: service. From a young age, the 肉肉传媒 student had the importance of serving instilled in her, first by her family, and later by the personal feeling of purpose driving her life. 鈥淎fter every holiday growing up, my aunt would have us make sandwiches, we鈥檇 buy a case of water, and take them out to homeless people in my hometown,鈥 said Graves, who is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. 鈥淚 think that鈥檚 where it all started, and that鈥檚 one thing we鈥檒l all be doing forever, whether we鈥檙e serving ourselves, our families, our God, our community or the Earth, we鈥檙e all in service to something.鈥

    With a slight scowl, Mary Tankersley solemnly stares at a rock wall at Stone Summit climbing gym in 肉肉传媒 planning a route to the top, tracing the hand and footholds with their eyes. After a few minutes, Tankersley stands up, chalks their hands, claps off the excess and walks to the base of the wall, peering up. Soon, they defy gravity, climbing the wall swiftly by swinging gracefully from one colorful rock to the next. It鈥檚 easy to forget 鈥 for onlookers and Tankersley both 鈥 that the graduating 肉肉传媒 senior has only one leg.

    Juggling school, extracurricular activities and earning spending money will be easier for students as a new phone application developed by a 肉肉传媒 alumnus allows them to focus on learning while earning gift cards for good grades. The app, Schoolconomy, was inspired by the personal experiences of KSU alumnus Regnault Drake Sanders, who didn鈥檛 have a job while attending Luella High School in Locust Grove, Ga. and saw during college how working negatively affected his classroom performance.
