    Excited gasps punctuated a Saturday afternoon in 肉肉传媒鈥檚 Engineering Technology Center as a crowd gathered around the unveiling of a new, permanent exhibit honoring the late Rev. Harris Travis. The unveiling took place during the second annual Hornets Homecoming, an event hosted by the Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) Alumni Society honoring those who graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University.

    肉肉传媒 State alumna returns to campus as nursing faculty member

    While working as a substance use disorder counselor at Ridgeview Hospital, Lisa Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 supervisor told her, 鈥淵ou know, you鈥檙e a nurse through and through.鈥 That reset the course for Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 life, though she never fully left counseling behind. She earned a bachelor鈥檚 in nursing from 肉肉传媒 in 2011, and, now an assistant professor of nursing in KSU鈥檚 Wellstar School of Nursing, Reyes-Walsh has applied her knowledge of substance use disorder and ability as a counselor to educate nurses who can care for patients struggling with substance use issues.

    With a slight scowl, Mary Tankersley solemnly stares at a rock wall at Stone Summit climbing gym in 肉肉传媒 planning a route to the top, tracing the hand and footholds with their eyes. After a few minutes, Tankersley stands up, chalks their hands, claps off the excess and walks to the base of the wall, peering up. Soon, they defy gravity, climbing the wall swiftly by swinging gracefully from one colorful rock to the next. It鈥檚 easy to forget 鈥 for onlookers and Tankersley both 鈥 that the graduating 肉肉传媒 senior has only one leg.

    Graduating 肉肉传媒 student Temi Aladegbemi said her career choice was inspired by what caught her eyes outside car windows while growing up. 肉肉传媒 State was the first university Aladegbemi visited for a tour, and from the moment she arrived on the Marietta Campus, she knew her place was in the College of Architecture and Construction Management. A first-generation college student graduating on Dec. 12, Aladegbemi has been active in campus activities from her earliest days at KSU.

    Juggling school, extracurricular activities and earning spending money will be easier for students as a new phone application developed by a 肉肉传媒 alumnus allows them to focus on learning while earning gift cards for good grades. The app, Schoolconomy, was inspired by the personal experiences of KSU alumnus Regnault Drake Sanders, who didn鈥檛 have a job while attending Luella High School in Locust Grove, Ga. and saw during college how working negatively affected his classroom performance.
