What is the ALEKS Prep and Learning Module?
After the initial unproctored online assessment, a targeted Prep and Learning Module is available for you to review and learn material. ALEKS will recommend a module but you don’t have to follow their recommendation. If you are trying to qualify to take calculus then you may want to select Prep for Calculus. If you are trying to qualify to take precalculus then you may want to select Prep for PreCalculus.
How does the Prep and Learning Module work?
After you begin the learning module, you will work on increasing your math knowledge until you are satisfied with your progress. Along the way, you will see progress reports that indicate your current knowledge level. After a minimum of 48 hours and at least 5 hours working in the learning modules, you will be eligible to take a proctored assessment. You have up to 3 attempts at the proctored assessment.
Why would I use the Prep and Learning Modules?
Time spent in ALEKS will better prepare you for your upcoming proctored attempt, future courses, and can ultimately lead to better grades. It will also help familiarize yourself with the types of questions you may see on a proctored assessment.
Can I retake the ALEKS Placement Assessment immediately?
You may take up to three proctored assessments and must wait at least 48 hours and work in the learning modules for at least 5 hours after each assessment before attempting another. There is generally no benefit to retaking the assessment immediately after completing a prior attempt. Unlike the SAT or ACT, you cannot improve your results by simply retaking the assessment without spending time in the Prep and Learning Modules to refresh material that you may have forgotten or to learn new material.
What are ALEKS Knowledge Checks?
While working in a Prep and Learning Module, you will periodically complete a Knowledge Check to make sure you have mastered the topics you gained in Learning Mode. If you do not show mastery during the Knowledge Check, the topics will be added back into your learning pie so you can review them again.
How long can I use the Prep and Learning Modules?
Once you have registered and completed the initial unproctored assessment, you will have access to the Prep and Learning Modules for up to 1 year. You should check your KSU student email for reminders about the amount of time remaining in the learning module. Once the 1-year period is up, you cannot receive additional time in the learning module.
Does progress in an ALEKS Prep and Learning Module count toward placement?
No, you must complete a new proctored placement assessment to change your placement result.
