What is a micro-credential?
In the simplest terms, micro-credentials are a micro-sized bit of education in a specific field or skill and are traditionally awarded in a digital format. Micro-credentials recognize a learner’s successful completion of educational activities that lead to professional skills and competencies. These skills and competencies are often not explicitly reflected on an institutional transcript. Additionally, micro-credentials can be earned in a shorter time frame than traditional academic credit and can be granted for any kind of learning initiative.
Why do I want a micro-credential?
Micro-credentials provide a platform for learners (you!) to recognize achievements that are novel and/or career focused. Transcripts and diplomas, on the other hand, are constrained to completed programs and courses, and grades. Micro-credentials allow learners to translate their entire learning experience in a meaningful, targeted way to help future employers understand what you "bring to the table".
How do I earn them?
Check Canvas Credentials to see what micro-credentials are available and what is required. Log into Canvas Credentials, KSU's Micro-Credential granting system, and claim your badge! To ensure micro-credentials earned are accessible after your time at ÈâÈ⴫ý State University, the micro-credential team recommends adding an additional, personal email to your Canvas Credentials profile.
