Admission and Auditions

We are glad you are interested in joining us in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at ÈâÈ⴫ý!

An audition is not required for acceptance into the program, but a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for first-year freshmen applying to be theatre and performance studies majors. Transfer students and currently enrolled KSU students seeking a change in major will also need a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Audition Information

  • You have up to 90 seconds to show us your best! Actors should prepare at least one memorized monologue. For musicals, students often prepare a short monologue as well as 16 – 32 bars of a musical theatre song. Be sure to bring piano/vocal sheet music in the correct key. Please make sure your complete audition falls within the 90 second limit. 

    All TPS majors within the Musical Theatre concentration are required to participate in the season auditions each semester. Students within the Acting concentration are strongly encouraged to participate.

    Rehearsal schedules for each production are provided at the auditions. For those interested in being cast, the department asks that you attempt to schedule your classes before 3:30 pm Monday through Friday, although directors will make exceptions for some afternoon classes.

  • Performers should prepare a one-to-five minute personal story of your own creation. Be prepared to discuss conflicts and obligations you have in the upcoming semester.
  • K.I.S.S. holds auditions each spring semester. No preparation is necessary. Students work with the existing ensemble and professional guest performers over a two-day period to learn and apply basic skills that support improv. The experienced members of the ensemble observe how those auditioning respond to the training and interact with their fellow performers. The ensemble ranges in size from 8-10 performers.

  • This is the course in the Musical Theatre Concentration which is open to all majors. When the course is offered, applications are accepted each semester beforehand. Application may include an audition.
