KSU Dance Major Audition Application

We invite you to audition with us! We hold both in-person auditions and accept video audition submissions on a rolling basis. Our in-person auditions are directly followed by an info session and Q&A with our faculty and staff. 

Important: If you are not currently a student at ÈâÈ⴫ý, you must begin your application for university admission before you apply to the Department of Dance. It is not essential that you be fully admitted to the University at the time of the audition, however, you will need your KSU ID number and Net ID generated by the university admission application to complete the dance audition registration form below. If you have already submitted your KSU application, here are the for locating your KSU ID and Net ID.

Note to Transfer Students: Students who wish to transfer to the Department of Dance at KSU from another institution or from another department follow the same audition procedures as new students. An audition is not required for students wishing to pursue a dance minor. 

 

Audition Information

  • We recommend that all auditioning students wear solid black dance attire, including either a leotard and tights or other form-fitting dancewear that allows for full range of movement and demonstrates their lines clearly. Please wear flat ballet shoes during the ballet portion of the audition. Ensure that hair is pulled back and neatly secured, and refrain from wearing jewelry. 
     
    All students entering the program must demonstrate technical and artistic aptitude capable of successfully completing the program of study.

  • Please register for an in-person audition using the We partner with Slideroom to host our applications. Detailed information will be provided a week before the audition.

    The audition process will consist of a 45-minute ballet barre, followed by a modern combination.

    All students and parents/caregivers are invited to join the dance faculty and current KSU students for a Q&A session directly following the audition. 

    Students will be notified about acceptance into the program within a week following the audition.   

  • Please read all directions before you begin your video application to audition for the Department of Dance. We partner with Slideroom to host our applications. 

    In order to ensure that we can accurately evaluate technical proficiency and personal potential, you will be asked to learn BOTH a condensed class in ballet technique and contemporary combinations through video links:

    You will then record your performance of both the ballet and contemporary material, upload it as a single file to YouTube or Vimeo and include in your via Slideroom. You also have the option to upload the media directly in the Slideroom platform.

    Students will receive their auditions results within 2-3 weeks after submitting a video audition.
