Mission

The mission of Tau Upsilon Alpha (TUA) National Organization for Human Services Honor Society is to honor academic excellence; to foster lifelong learning, leadership and development; and to promote excellence in service to humanity.

Membership Criteria

  • There are five categories of membership in TUA:

    1. Student (undergraduate & graduate) this is for students who are currently enrolled in a college or university that have an existing chapter of TUA.
    2. Faculty this is for faculty members who are employed at a college or university that have an existing chapter of TUA.
    3. Alumni this is for students who have graduated from a university that starts a chapter after the student graduates.
    4. At-Large is for students who are at a college or university where a chapter is not currently existing and where one will not be started.
    5. Honorary is used to recognize outstanding professional achievement and service to the Human Services field by persons not eligible for student, alumni, or faculty membership
  • Student Members must

    • Have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and be in the top 35% of their class, 
    • Have completed at least the equivalent of three full-time semesters leading to the baccalaureate degree,
    • Agree to abide by the NOHS Code of Ethics, and
    • Show evidence of awareness of the value of leadership and service to a successful career in the human services.

    INVITED STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS TO BE OFFICIALY ACCEPTED INTO TUA

  • Alumni Members must

    • Have graduated with a B.S. in Human Services,
    • Have graduated with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and been in the top 35% of their class,
    • Agree to abide by the NOHS Code of Ethics, and
    • Show evidence of awareness of the value of leadership and service to a successful career in the human services.

    INVITED ALUMNI MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS TO BE OFFICIALY ACCEPTED INTO TUA

  • The Society recognizes and encourages faculty and administration involvement. Faculty will be chosen for their interest, ability to work effectively with students, and desire to promote the ideals of the Society.

    To be eligible, faculty must

    • Be full-time or part-time faculty in a Human Services or closely related Social Science field,
    • Have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching or two years of part-time teaching at ÈâÈ⴫ý, and
    • Have maintained an overall scholastic average of 3.25 while enrolled in their education program (graduate).

    FACULTY INTERESTED IN JOINING THE SOCIETY MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Honorary Membership recognizes outstanding professional achievement and service to the human services field by persons not eligible for student, alumni or faculty membership in the Society. Nominations shall be approved by the Faculty Advisor. No more than two (2) honorary memberships may be granted by a chapter in any academic year. Honorary members must be elected by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the chapter. The national dues are paid for by the chapter. A membership application and supporting documentation verifying eligibility criteria must be submitted to the Faculty Advisor.
