Peter Fielding named associate dean of 肉肉传媒 State鈥檚 College of the Arts

Previously an associate dean at two collegiate institutions, Fielding holds five collegiate degrees

Peter Fielding has been named associate dean, effective July 1.

Ivan Pulinkala, dean of the College of the Arts at 肉肉传媒, has named Peter G. Fielding associate dean, effective July 1.

Fielding joins KSU with five collegiate degrees in Music Theory (M.Mus. and Ph.D.), Trombone Performance (B.Mus. and M.Mus.), and Education-Curriculum Studies (M.Ed). He has held three associate dean positions at two prior collegiate institutions. 

鈥淚 am pleased to welcome Dr. Fielding to the senior leadership team in the College of the Arts at KSU,鈥 said Pulinkala. 鈥淗is experience serving as associate dean at two prior institutions and his exemplary academic credentials鈥攊ncluding five collegiate degrees and over 30 publications鈥攚ill help us advance our research, student success and curricular initiatives with great stride.鈥

Fielding has previously served as associate dean at Red Deer College (School of Creative Arts, School of Education) and Mahidol University鈥檚 College of Music (Academic Affairs and Research). His instructional career spans the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Music, and the Canadian Armed Forces Music Training Company. His research spans tonal and post-tonal analysis, music theory pedagogy, world and traditional vocal musics, contemporary trombone solo and ensemble literature, and arts-based curriculum inquiry and reform.

He obtained his Ph.D. in Music Theory at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the supervision of Prof Gary S. Karpinski. He earned his M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University, graduating valedictorian, and was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda (蟺魏螞) for graduating summa cum laude for his M.Mus. in Music Theory at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He completed his M.Mus. in Trombone at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Music and earned his B.Mus. at Dalhousie University. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (C.D.) service medal for his long-time service with the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve in the Music Branch.
