Repertory company is known for diverse voices that embody the best of current works

肉肉传媒 Department of Dance will host Los Angeles-based on Jan. 26-27 at 8 p.m. at the KSU Dance Theater on the Marietta campus. The repertory company features the work of internationally acclaimed choreographers, including Ohad Naharin, Kyle Abraham, Sidra Bell, Arthur Pita, Micaela Taylor, Fernando Magadan, Matthew Neenan, and Hofesh Shechter. 

In pursuit of the most challenging, original, and diverse choreography in the field, BODYTRAFFIC has made waves from coast to coast with its far-reaching appeal. Artistic Director Tina Finkelman Berkett leads a masterful troupe, all nimble interpreters of each choreographers鈥� distinct vision. Surprising and unforgettable, is 鈥渙ne of the most talked about companies nationwide鈥� (Los Angeles Times). 

Chair of the Department of Dance says that, as a repertory company, BODYTRAFFIC features 鈥渉ighly virtuosic and very adaptable dancers. The have the ability to work with a lot of different approaches and styles, and that ties in nicely with our mission to train a well-rounded dancer.鈥� 

Students will have the opportunity to learn from company members in the week prior to the performances. 鈥淲e are really excited about the mini residency,鈥� says Barsky. 鈥淏ODYTRAFFIC has such versatile and well-rounded dancers, and our students will benefit from their time at KSU.鈥� 

During the residency, company members will meet with classes and teach improvisation, modern, and even an Afro-Cuban class. They will also meet with senior students to discuss what life is like as a professional dancer in Los Angeles. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a unique time for students to connect with the company, and it will deepen their experience when they see the performance,鈥� adds Barsky. 

Assistant Professor of Dance and Interim Artistic Director agrees. She says, 鈥淭he company members are close in age to our students, so they bring a lot to the table. Since BODYTRAFFIC commissions different choreographers, their program will be very diverse, artistically. It鈥檚 not just the same kind of work鈥攊t has a wider breadth.鈥� 

The selected for KSU includes Snap, Recurrence, and A Million Voices. Through their educational outreach efforts, BODYTRAFFIC seeks to elevate dance beyond an art form to a mode of exploration and celebration of ideas and spirit through movement.
